MEGADESK
Project Concept
- Learn some Woodworking and Power Tool skills by recreating the MEGADESK from my high school years.
- Rebuild the desk based on a paper copy of the design plans from the original designer/creator
Loose Specifications
- Build the 8' wide desk out of MDF, use 1/2" bolts to hold the legs together, and use 1/4" aluminum brackets to hold everything together.
- Laminate the desktop surfaces with Formica or equivalent
- Tools used: Saw Horse, Jig Saw, Belt Sander, Orbital Sander, Router, Clamps, Drill, Hacksaw, Screwdriver
- 5 Sheets minimum of 3/4"x8'x4' MDF, Truck Bed Spray Paint for the legs, Wilsonart "Kensington Maple" 60 finish for the laminate. Legs and lower desktop are both 2-ply
- Completed in 2 weeks

Years ago, the original one had cabinets

First Full Assembly
slight leg wobble, but both desks are level

Meticulous Measurement
I spent hours making sure everything was perfectly centered, balanced, flat, and level

Aluminum Supports
It took a lot of work with a hacksaw and a screwdriver to make sure nothing moves

Go with the Black & Tan
After painting the legs, a new color scheme was picked
